Call It Love episode 16 starts with Dong-jin having lunch with Hyun-ju. No one else is at home because Woo-joo has mandated that everyone leave so that he doesn’t feel uncomfortable. He becomes emotional when she tells him to contact her whenever he feels like eating anything, and afterwards, he meets Woo-joo at the usual spot.

He finally tells her about quitting his job, and she mentions that she doesn’t want this moment to end between them. Meanwhile, Hee-ja desperately tries to get a hold of Chul-min’s children in order to get mercy from them so as not to end up in prison. Although Dong-jin had refused to go down that route earlier, fear gets a hold of Hee-ja, and after some thought, she rushes to Woo-joo’s aunt, who refuses to give in to her demands.

On the other hand, Woo-joo opens up to Jun about her feelings surrounding the breakup with Dong-jin and her regrets surrounding her behaviour at her father’s funeral. At Best Fairs the next day, Dong-jin gets a little farewell party from everyone, and Sun-woo expresses that he wishes for him to return, which leaves Dong-jin rather emotional.

Meanwhile, Woo-joo’s aunt finally lets her know that Hee-ja has been making the round at her office in order to get in touch with her. Although her aunt is of the opinion that she shouldn’t forgive her for what she has done, Woo-joo decides to meet her regardless. Hee-ja is left shocked when Woo-joo finally does make an appearance, remembering her from the office when she had failed to recognise her.

The two of them go out for a drink, and Woo-joo gives her a piece of her mind regarding her father’s betrayal and Hee-ja’s role in it. She further tells her that she is in love with Dong-jin and, in spite of knowing who he is, moved forward with her feelings. However, she refuses to apologise for it and rather agrees to forgive her and wish her a good life. The confession leaves Hee-ja speechless and even more emotional than before.

In the end, Woo-joo promises to send her the non-punishment application letter, and Hee-ja wishes for her to have a good life.

At Dong-jin’s place, Hee-ja tells her son that she met Woo-joo after getting scared of ending up in prison. She asks him whether he too likes Woo-joo, and he replies that he does, and it’s for her that he was happy for the first time. The confession leaves Hee-ja heartbroken, and as Dong-jin leaves the apartment, Hee-ja dissolves in tears.

That night, as Dong-jin cools off outside the house, Woo-joo calls him and asks him whether he’d like to go camping at his favourite place. After a moment’s thought, Dong-jin agrees and promises to meet her the next day.

The new day ushers in new hope and Dong-jin and Woo-joo make their way down the long forest trail together to their camping destination. Once there, Woo-joo shares that without meeting him, she would always have been filled with rage. She further adds that she is thankful that he didn’t hate her after everything that happened. Dong-jin tells her that the love she gave him was greater than any pain, so it doesn’t really matter.

The two of them share their feelings about one another and how things will change now that she is moving away. It’s a saddening thought, but it also provides closure to both of them. As the time comes to go home, there’s a clear heaviness between the two – Dong-jin hugs Woo-joo, and she readily goes in for it, both of them cherishing the moment together.

Even Jun feels the weight of his empty home; now that the siblings are gone, he has no one to share a beer with.

One year later, Jun and Hae-sung’s relationship is still going strong. He even goes forward and proposes to her, which takes her by surprise. Meanwhile, as it turns out, there’s something going on between Min-young and Sun-woo as well, and although it’s not official, it’s comfortable.

At Woo-joo’s childhood home, things are also quite upbeat. Woo-joo is working with a different fair company and still shares a nice bond with Soo-hee. However, when the latter asks Woo-joo whether she knows anything about Dong-jin, she mentions that she hasn’t heard anything about him. Soo-hee shares that Dong-jin moved away and is now living in another neighbourhood.

After taking a walk down her old neighbourhood, Woo-joo meets Jun in the afternoon, wherein she shares that not much has changed in the neighbourhood. On the other hand, Dong-jin looks happy and fulfilled, going on multiple camping trips and with a new job.

That night, Hae-sung senses Woo-joo’s mood and tells her that nothing is preventing her from dating Dong-jin anymore since their mother promised to send him food whenever he wants. Woo-joo is taken aback by this news, and Hae-sung encourages her to see the relationship through. Elsewhere, Dong-jin, on his latest camping trip, gets Ji-gu’s latest track, who also decides to tell Dong-jin to meet Woo-joo at their favourite restaurant.

Both of them rush to meet each other there, and time slows down when Dong-jin finally sees her. Ji-gu, too, gets excited seeing the two of them there, which makes Woo-joo take note of Dong-jin beside her. As their eyes lock, they both can’t stop smiling at each other. The episode ends with an ecstatic Woo-joo rushing towards an equally ecstatic Dong-jin.
Call It Love Episode 16 Review

Well, with a rather sweet ending that keeps things hopeful, Call It Love ends things off on a peachy note. And to be honest, after the emotional rollercoaster ride, I am glad. It doesn’t matter how odd it sounds or looks, but the fact that these people all ended up in a better place might just help fans of the show sleep better tonight!

But on a more serious note, I was left to wonder what happened to Hee-ja since we completely forgot about her in the end. Did she get jail time or community service? Any information would be great at this point, and the series fails to give us that.

All in all, I enjoyed the Call It Love finale – it’s not always that we are left off in such high spirits! If only the colour grading were better, though.

Call It Love is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
