Storyline:

Pushpa Raj (Allu Arjun) is one of the many coolies in Seshachalam who chop down red sandalwood illegally and sell it by the kilo to powers-that-be. In a syndicate that consists of numerous players, Pushpa slowly learns to find his footing and rise in ranks till the man who would once chop down these trees becomes the one giving the orders. However, his Achilles heel is not his lady love Srivalli (Rashmika Mandanna), or the big-wigs Konda Reddy (Ajay Ghosh), Jolly Reddy (Dhananjay), Mangalam Srinu (Sunil) and his wife Dakshayani (Anasuya Baradwaj).

Review:

With Pushpa: The Rise, Sukumar ventures into unchartered territory by making a rustic masala film filled with punch dialogues, characters that speak in a Chittoor dialect and a story that’s rooted deep in the region it’s set in. And seeing as how expectations were sky-high after Rangasthalam, what he delivers turns out to be a mixed bag that’s over-long, falters at times and delivers what it promises at others.

In the history of cinema, the only south superstars who have managed to score a century with the dubbed Hindi version of their south films are Prabhas and Rajinikanth. While Prabhas has done that thrice over with Baahubali - The Beginning, Baahubali - The Conclusion and Saaho, Rajinikanth has done it once with 2.0 (though it also had Akshay Kumar as the antagonist). Now Allu Arjun too is set to join this big league, what with his Pushpa doing extremely well in its Hindi version during the sixth weekend as well.

Based on the smuggling of red sander trees in Seshachalam forest, Andhra Pradesh, Pushpa tells the story of a lorry driver who is part of the illegal business.

The film collected over Rs. 1.35 crores more and as a result its overall score has now reached Rs. 94.56 crores. This is superb as the ground is wide open for the film to now bring in more than 6 crores from here, something that should be quite possible. It may have been difficult if not for the 26th January public holiday. However with that falling bang in the middle of the week, the drop on Tuesday too would be minimal and then Wednesday will go further higher. Over Rs. 1 crore is set to come in on this day and that will give good boost to the film.

While Pushpa (Hindi) is a blockbuster already, one can be rest assured that the sequel of the film will open to a blockbuster beginning as well once it releases in 2023.
